On vacation with kids to: Washington, USA.

Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States of America. Washington is the north western most state of the contiguous United States. The state is bordered by the Canadian province of British Columbia to the north, Oregon to the south, with the Columbia River forming most of the boundary, Idaho to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The state is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States and is sometimes called Washington state to distinguish it from Washington, D.C., the US capital.
The state estimated population (2006) is estimated at 6,395,798. The capital of Washington is Olympia with an estimated population of 42,514. Largest city Seattle has an estimated population of 580,000 and an estimated metropolitan area population of approximately 3.3 million.
Washington is a land of contrasts. The deep forests of the Olympic Peninsula, such as the Hoh Rain Forest, are among the only temperate rainforests in the continental United States, but the semi-desert east of the Cascade Range has not one single tree. Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the state is covered with more glacial ice than any other peak in the lower 48 states.
Washington's climate varies greatly from west to east. A mild oceanic climate also called ‘marine west coast climate’ predominates in western Washington, and a much drier climate prevails east of the Cascade Range.
