On vacation with kids to: South Carolina, USA.

South Carolina, also called 'The Palmetto State' is a state in the south eastern region of the United States of America. South Carolina is bordered to the north by North Carolina, to the south and west by Georgia, located across the Savannah River and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.

The state's population stands at 4,321,249 (estimated in 2005).
South Carolina has a humid subtropical climate. In the summer South Carolina is hot and humid with daytime temperatures averaging between 86-92°F. Winter temperatures are much less uniform in South Carolina. Coastal areas of the state have very mild winters with high temperatures and further inland in the higher country the average January overnight low can be below freezing.
From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the South Carolina beaches, there are spectacular views of towering waterfalls, forested mountains, blackwater rivers, crystal white sand beaches and a variety of other magnificent sights. With all bays, inlets, and islands considered the coastline measures 2,876 miles. The northeast section of the coast has few islands and south of Winyah Bay the coast is dotted with sea islands and bays.
The Piedmont region contains the roots of an ancient, eroded mountain chain. Much of the Piedmont was once farmed and is now reforested. At the edge of the Piedmont is the fall line, where rivers drop to the coastal plain. The upper part of the Piedmont is also known as the Foothills.
Highest in elevation is the Upstate, containing an escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which continue into North Carolina and Georgia, as part of the southern Appalachian chain. Here also lies the Chattooga River, located on the border between South Carolina and Georgia, which is a favourite whitewater rafting destination.
In the mountains, forests, and rivers of north western South Carolina, you'll find activities like hiking, fishing, biking, and boating. Popular vacation destinations include Table Rock, Lake Keowee, and Lake Murray.
The South Carolina State Parks are great destinations too. Preserved and protected, they are examples of South Carolina’s natural, cultural and recreational resources. These areas are made for inland adventure or relaxation.
